How do I customize my on-page and email confirmation messaging?

Splash has completely revamped the way your attendees will experience confirmation messaging — on-page and in their inboxes.

Take a look at this high-level guide for designing and configuring your event's most cherished touch points. We'll run you through how to manage confirmations for both RSVP and ticketed events.

Customize the On-Page confirmation message (RSVP Event):

First, let's take a look at what the default on-page confirmation message looks like below:

As you can see the default pop-up shows a Headline, "RSVP Submitted", as well as a message, "Thank You." These will work for most events, but maybe you want to change this messaging up to be a little more specific or personal.

Note: Enterprise clients will see the exact same pop-up only without the Splash branding in the bottom.

To customize this messaging:

1. Click into the event's Confirmation tab.
2. Click into the Headline input for On-Page confirmation and update it to your liking.
3. Click into the Message input and do the same.
4. Hit the Save button in the top right of the Confirmations manager.
5. Close out & Test

Customize the Email Confirmation message (RSVP Event):

Customizing the simple messaging inside your default confirmation email that the attendee receives is just as simple!

First, take a look at the default confirmation email for this event below:

As you can see the default email shows the attendee information, and then the location and time of the event. Pretty standard stuff! Let's see what is added once we edit the Confirmation Email messaging.

To customize your Confirmation Email messaging from the Confirmation's Dashboard:

1. Click into the Confirmation Dashboard tab when inside an event page.

2. Scroll down and click into the Headline input for Email Confirmation and update it to your liking.

Pro Tip: Feel free to add custom Personalization Tabs to make the messaging more personal

3. Click into the Message input for Email Confirmation and update it to your liking.

4. Hit the "Save" button in the top right of the Confirmations Dashboard.

5. Before closing out, click the "Send Test" button from the Email Confirmation modal in the dashboard.

Take a look at this experience in the below video:

And here is a look at what shows up in your inbox when you hit "Send Test".

As you can see, the subject line of the email has been customized (including some fancy personalization tags to populate the attendees first name and event title!). Also included in the email now is a personal message that we put in: "We can't wait to see you at the event!". Pretty easy!

Customize the On-Page confirmation message (Ticketed Event):

For ticketed events, you can also customize the on-page and email confirmation messages received immediately after purchase. Additionally, you have control over the customization of a few different choices:

1. Default Ticket

This is the confirmation an attendee will see after purchasing a single ticket type, both on-page and through email. It will include the attendee's information, purchase receipt, and custom messaging you created for any specific ticket type. You can also add additional messaging for all ticket types by typing directly into the Message section below.

2. Multi-Ticket Types

This is the confirmation attendees will see after purchasing multiple tickets types, both on-page and through email. The messaging you created for each ticket will stack on top of each other in the confirmation message. You can also add additional messaging by typing directly into the Message section below.

3. Customize Messaging Per Ticket

This is where the user can update the messaging per ticket. For example, they could have different messaging show for General Admission than they do for VIP tickets. Any messaging or updates to the template for this ticket type will override updates that have been made to the Default Ticket.

Make sense? Let's dive in one by one.

1a. Default Ticket: On-Page Confirmation

Let's first look at the default experience for when an attendee purchases a single ticket for the event:

Default Confirmation for Ticketed Events from Splash on Vimeo.

The user selects one ticket to purchase, fills out the necessary attendee information and hits submit. They are met with a fairly clean and simple Confirmation Modal that shows them: the time & date of the event, a receipt area displaying the necessary information to describe the ticket they have purchased, and short messaging "Order Completed. Thank you".

If the user wants to customize the messaging for their default ticket state they need to follow these simple steps:

1. Click into the Confirmation Dashboard tab when inside a ticketed event page.

2. Scroll down and click into the Headline input for On-Page Confirmation of the Default Ticket type and update it to your liking.

3. Click into the Message input for On-Page Confirmation of the Default Ticket type and update it to your liking.

4. Hit the "Save" button in the top right of the Confirmations Dashboard.

5. Close out and test!

1b. Default Ticket: Email Confirmation

Here is a look at the default email confirmation an attendee would receive from this event if they purchase a ticket:

Screen_Shot_2017-07-06_at_6.10.35_PM.png

This is usually more than enough information for the event host to display to the attendee but maybe you want to include a personal message or specific directions in the email. Fortunately, updating this portion of the experience is just as easy as doing it for on-page.

If the user wants to customize the messaging for their default ticket state in the email they need to follow these simple steps:

1. Click into the Confirmation Dashboard tab when inside a ticketed event page.

2. Scroll down and click into the Headline input for Email Confirmation of the Default Ticket type and update it to your liking.

3. Click into the Message input for Email Confirmation of the Default Ticket type and update it to your liking.

4. Hit the "Save" button in the top right of the Confirmations Dashboard.

5. Before closing out, send yourself a test!

Here is a video showing that experience:

Take a look at what the test email looks like below (Notice the custom subject line and custom message at the bottom of the actual email!):

And here is how the custom PDF messaging would be displayed on the hard copy of the ticket:

So far so good! Next, let's take a look at what happens when the user purchases multiple tickets.

2. Multi-Ticket Types: On-Page & Email Confirmation

Let's first look at the default experience for when an attendee purchases multiple tickets for the event:

Screen Recording 2017-07-11 at 04.21 PM from Splash on Vimeo.

The user selects multiple tickets to purchase (Note: This can be the same ticket type or different ticket types), fills out the necessary attendee information and hits submit. They are met with a clean and simple Confirmation Modal that shows them: the time & date of the event, a receipt area displaying the necessary information to describe the ticket they have purchased, and short messaging "Order Completed. Thank you". No change here from the Single Ticket purchaser outside of the quantity of tickets.

If the user wants to customize the on-page AND their email messaging for their multi-ticket type they need to follow these simple steps:

1. Click into the Confirmation Dashboard tab when inside a ticketed event page.

2. Click into the "Multi-Ticket Types" tab.

3. Scroll down and click into the Headline input for On-Page Confirmation of the Multi-Ticket Types and update it to your liking.

4. Click into the Message input for On-Page Confirmation of the Multi-Ticket Type and update it to your liking.

5. Scroll down and click into the Headline input for Email Confirmation of the Multi-Ticket Types and update it to your liking.

6. Click into the Message input for Email of the Multi-Ticket Type and update it to your liking.

7. Hit the "Save" button in the top right of the Confirmations Dashboard.

8. Close out and test!

Here is a look at the default email confirmation an attendee would receive from this event if they purchase multiple tickets:

Let's compare that to a customized multi-ticket type email below. Notice the custom subject line and custom message at the bottom of the actual email!

Screen_Shot_2017-07-11_at_4.33.19_PM.png

NOTE: Another main difference between customizing the experience for a Default Ticket purchase and a Multi-Ticket Type purchase is that the user can only customize the message on the PDF that is attached to the email (the actual hard-copy of the ticket) in Default, and NOT in Multi-Ticket Type.

3a. Customize Messaging Per Ticket: On-Page Confirmation

A common use case that comes up is:

"What if I have different directions for my VIP Ticket than I do for my General Admission Ticket?"

Well, good news! You're in luck. Our third type of confirmation customization comes in handy here!

By default, when a user creates a new ticket, our Confirmations Dashboard automatically creates a tab for that given ticket type. Take a look at a user cycling through their options below:

Screen_Recording_2017-07-11_at_04.52_PM.gif

As you can see, the General Admission Ticket and VIP Ticket have their own tabs but are not completely independent yet. The on-page confirmation for both the General Admission Ticket and VIP Ticket types are linked directly to the Default Ticket. The emails, as you can see via the checked box, have already been unlinked from the Default ticket so the user has free reign to change the email message per ticket type.

Let's first discuss how to edit the On-Page confirmation for individual tickets (in this case we will use the General Admission Ticket and the VIP Ticket).

Editing On-Page Confirmation for individual tickets

To change the on-page confirmation messaging for individual ticket types we will follow these steps:

1. Click into the Confirmation Dashboard.

2. Click into one of the individual tickets you have created (in our case "General Admission")

3. Click the "Unlink from Default Ticket" checkbox in the On-Page modal.

4. Type whatever headline and message you'd like.

5. Hit "Save"

6. Repeat for your other tickets (in our case "VIP")

7. Hit "Save"

8. Close out of Confirmations Dashboard and purchase multiple tickets.

Here is a video that shows the above steps in action:

3b. Customize Messaging Per Ticket: Email Confirmation

We will now look to tackle the messaging the attendee receives in their Email Confirmation when they purchase multiple tickets that have individualized messaging.

A quick note before we begin: The designer does not need to customize the On-Page messaging per ticket before customizing the Email Messaging. These opportunities for messaging can be kept separate. In the case of the steps and video below, the designer has already elected to customize the On-Page messaging per ticket as well.

To change the email confirmation messaging for individual ticket types we will follow these steps:

1. Click into the Confirmation Dashboard.

2. Click into one of the individual tickets you have created (in our case "General Admission")

3. Click into the Email modal input fields and type whatever headline and message you'd like.

5. Hit "Save"

6. Repeat for your other tickets (in our case "VIP")

7. Hit "Save"

8. Close out of Confirmations Dashboard and purchase multiple tickets.

9. Check your email to see the results! (You may also elect to send yourself a test email as well)

Here is a video that shows the above steps in action:

Now take a look at what the attendee receives in their email inbox below:

Here is the attached PDF for the General Admission attendee:

And here is the attached PDF for the VIP attendee (note the different messaging per ticket!):

And that's it! The next step in the designer's customization development would be to change the design of their on-page and email confirmations and those articles can be found here:

Good luck, and Happy Confirming-
